FFA members excel at sub-district contest

Trenton FFA member Austin Polk was elected as the 2011-2012 District III, Sub-District III chair at the FFA sub-district contest held in Mayo on December 6, 2011.
The 51 middle school FFA members and 42 high school FFA members in attendance elected Polk. The FFA members represented Dixie County, Lafayette County and Bell and Trenton FFA chapters.
According to Heather Rucker, Trenton Middle FFA advisor, there were a number of events held at the sub-district contest. Career development events included creed speaking, dairy evaluation, extemporaneous public speaking, opening and closing ceremonies, parliamentary procedure, prepared public speaking and tractor driving.
Madison Redd of Trenton FFA won the Creed speaking contest and Hunter Parrish, also of Trenton FFA, won the tractor driving contest. Jarrett Douglas of Bell Middle FFA won the middle school prepared public speaking contest. As sub-district winners, Madison, Hunter and Jarrett will all advance to the Florida FFA District III contest, which will be held on Jan. 24, 2012 in Bronson. The district winners will then advance to the Florida FFA State Preliminaries/Finals at the 84th Florida FFA State Convention, which will be June 25-29, 2012.
Redd placed first in the creed contest followed by Shelbi McCall of Dixie County FFA in second place and Sierra Cartwright of Bell FFA in third place.
In the senior extemporaneous public speaking contest, Cecelia Koon of Lafayette FFA took first place, followed by Austin Polk of Trenton FFA in second and Caleb Currie of Dixie County FFA in third.
Kevin Currie of Dixie County Middle FFA placed first in the middle school extemporaneous public speaking contest. Michaela Shaw of Lafayette Jr. FFA placed second and McKensie Martin of Bell Middle FFA took third place.
Lafayette Jr. FFA won the opening and closing ceremonies contest. Trenton Middle FFA came in second and Dixie County Middle FFA placed third.
Lafayette FFA also won the senior parliamentary procedure contest followed by Trenton FFA in second and Dixie County FFA took third place.
In the middle school parliamentary procedure contest, Lafayette Jr. FFA placed first, followed by Bell Middle FFA in second and Dixie County Middle FFA in third.
Darren Brantley of Lafayette FFA won the senior prepared public speaking contest, followed by Erin Jones of Trenton FFA in second and Shelbi Crews of Dixie County FFA in third.
Jarrett Douglas placed first in the middle school prepared public speaking contest, followed by Bree Ann Smith of Lafayette Jr. FFA and Sierra Berry of Dixie County Middle FFA in third place.
Mason Byrd of Lafayette FFA placed second in the tractor driving contest, behind Hunter Parrish. Bailey Roux of Bell FFA placed third in the contest.
All participants were treated to lunch courtesy of the Lafayette FFA Chapters and the Lafayette FFA Alumni. Lafayette County Dairy Association donated milk for breakfast prior to the contest.
