Selling illegal prescription drugs is now considered an epidemic in the United States, even in a community as small as Bell, where deputies with the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office arrested a father and son last Wednesday for allegedly selling prescription tablets.
Bell residents Carrol Matthew Shiflett, 23, of 3140 NW 20th Street, and Eugene Wayne Shiflett, 46, also of 3140 NW 20th Street, were arrested and charged with the sale of controlled substances Oxycodone and Alprazolam tablets.

According to Lt. David Aderholt, investigations commander at the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, the father and son were arrested at 7:30 p.m. on NW 20th Street in Bell after selling the prescription drugs to an undercover officer.
"It had been an ongoing investigation for some time," Aderholt explained.
The Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office had reportedly received a tip that the father and son were selling illegal prescription drugs in Bell, after reportedly moving to Gilchrist County over a year ago.
Aderholt reported that the arrest marks Carrol Shiflett’s first drug related arrest and his father Eugene Shiflett’s first drug related arrest in the state of Florida.
Both men are being held in the Gilchrist County Jail on a bond of $30,000 each.
According to Aderholt, illegal prescription drugs are one of the most common drugs being sold in Gilchrist County at this time.
“Many times people have a valid prescription for the drugs; it’s when they sell or misuse the prescription drugs that there is a problem,” Aderholt explained.
