Sanders and Mkuu crowned royalty

Jessie Sanders and Abdul Mkuu were crowned Bell High School’s 2011 homecoming queen and king on Friday evening, just before the Bulldogs were defeated by the Hilliard Flashes.
Jessie is the daughter of Mike and Tammy Sanders. Abdul is the son of Said Mkuu and Bahi Omar.

Friday night’s festivities capped off a successful week of homecoming festivites as students dressed up for spirit days Monday through Friday.
This year’s annual Bulldog Growl, which was hosted by the BHS student government drew over 800 people to the Iris Roberts Auditorium.
According to Brad Surrency, 2011 marked the biggest crowd ever to attend Bell’s Bulldog Growl. In fact, people began gathering outside the auditorium a full hour before the Growl was set to begin.
At the Bulldog Growl, skits were performed by a number of the clubs, classes and teams at Bell High School in keeping with this year’s “Wacked Out” homecoming theme.
Skit winners were: First place-Junior Class; Second place-Senior class; Third place-Volleyball team.
“The skits were really good this year,” Surrency said. “You could tell the kids put a lot of time and energy into it.”
Shelby Geiger and Branden Thomas were crowned 8th grade prince and princess during the Bulldog Growl.
Traffic was stopped on Friday afternoon as colorful floats and waving attendants riding atop flashy cars strolled down US 129 in the annual homecoming parade.

The Health Academy took first place on Friday with their “Dr. Seuss” themed float. Second place in the float competition went to the Senior Class with their “Alice in Wonderland” themed float and Bell FFA took third place with a “Wizard of Oz” decorated float.
Homecoming 2011 drew a massive crowd to the Boneyard on Friday night. Former Bell High School graduates were dressed in their purple and gold, cheering on the Bulldogs, despite a 48-14 loss.
After a disappointing loss last week, the Bulldogs will be off on Friday night.
The next Bell Bulldogs’ football game will be at Hawthorne on Friday, Oct. 21.
