An 11-year-old was transported to Shands Hospital with serious injuries on Saturday morning after the ATV the child was riding on overturned near County Road 307.
According to Florida Highway Patrolman Glen Ganus, two children, ages 11 and 12 were riding on a 2007 Subaru ATV cart on SW 57th Place when the accident occurred. The ATV was reportedly traveling east through a field when, according to the 12-year-old driver, the ATV hit a pot hole and the driver jerked the steering wheel to the left to avoid the hole. The ATV then overturned on its right side causing the 11-year-old to fall out onto the ground.
The ATV came to a final stop with the passenger trapped on the ground under the ATV’s top.
At the time of the accident, the driver and passenger in the ATV were not wearing seatbelts or helmets.
Trooper Ganus indicated in his report that no charges will be filed in the accident.
