motorcycle accident Saturday on SR 26

A Trenton man on his Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling west on SR 26 Saturday was riding in a poker run to raise funds for a local cancer patient when he was involved in a truck accident that resulted in his death Saturday afternoon, reported Trooper Kennard of the Florida Highway Patrol.
Robert J. Carrier, 59, was traveling 1.1 miles west of Trenton when a 2002 Ford pickup truck driven by Jackie R. Barron, 60, of Trenton made a U-turn on SR 26 in front of the motorcycle. The driver of the Harley Davidson steered to the right in an attempt to avoid the truck pulling across the highway, but collided with the right front of the vehicle with the front left of his motorcycle. Carrier, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was ejected from the bike and came to rest on the north side of the ditch of SR 26.
The driver of the truck was reported to have come back to the scene of the accident and exited his vehicle to attend to the driver of the bike.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville by Gilchrist County Emergency Medical Service where he was reported to have passed away later on Saturday.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported charges in this accident are pending a final investigation.
