Benefit lunch planned for Matt Cravey, a longtime ag. teacher

Matt Cravey, FFA Advisor and Agriculture teacher at Dixie County High School, suffered a stroke and other health complications this past summer and has been shuttling between hospital and nursing home in an all out effort to rehabilitate and get on the road to recovery. His wife, their three sons and extended family are working hard to see that Matt gets the care he needs.
As you can imagine, the medical costs are staggering and family’s budget and insurance are nearly exhausted. Matt and his family need our prayers and financial support.
Community members are pulling together in an effort to help Matt through a benefit BBQ pulled pork luncheon set for Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Suwannee River Livestock Show and Sale Barn in Fanning Springs. Dinners will be served beginning at 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. and the event is open to the public. You and your family are cordially invited to attend this event and show your support for Matt and his family.
Matt and his wife Maureen are both school teachers and have raised three fine boys. Matt is the son of a Baptist preacher (Rev. Jake Cravey). Matt came back to Dixie County, where he grew up, to teach Ag. and take on the leadership of FFA and has been recognized statewide for not only turning around a program, but giving many students opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have. Many of his students have gone on to be very successful because of the FFA skills taught to them by Matt. His impact has been substantial and he is missed in his position as teacher, advisor, friend and co-worker. He has been a mentor to many.
Matt’s son, L.B., is in college and plays football for Charleston Southern. They played the University of Florida in their opener this year and L.B. got to play on Florida Field, something Matt was waiting to see, but due to his illness, he was unable to attend.
Matt is an unsung hero in Dixie County, Florida and he has given so much to others. He has spent countless hours volunteering in the community to make it a better place and now Matt needs our help. Please mark your calendar for Saturday, October 10, at the Suwannee River Fairgrounds in Fanning Springs. Matt and his family appreciate your support!
