Tigers football team blows out Branford

Submitted by KayLee Crawford

Friday night the Trenton Tigers played the Branford Buccaneers. THS started out the game with a bang. Jonathan Smith took a kick back for 75 yards to get the Tigers going and they didn’t slow up. The Tigers knew coming into the game they were going to be the better team. But they still took it as serious and played their hearts out like any other game. Coach Thomas’ goals for the team were for them to play out every play, to work on their offense, and for quarterback Stephen Smith to have more throwing and game-time practice. Their ultimate goal was to pitch a shutout and they achieved that goal with a 62-0 score.

Top tacklers for the game were Hunter Parrish with 5 tackles and 2 assisted tackles, Colton Duquette with 4 tackles and 2 assisted tackles, and Jonathan Smith with 4 tackles. In the receiving end of the game Cedric Stokes had 3 passes and ran for 92 yards. Stokes also kicked for the Tigers and made 6 out of 7.
After halftime the Tigers pulled their starters and still continued to run the score, and also kept the Bucs from scoring. The team’s hitman of the week is Leandre Mathis. The Trenton Tigers are 2-0 and they are coming!
Trenton will be in Jacksonville at Bishop Snyder on Friday, September 16, at 7 p.m. kickoff.
