Badcock stores in Trenton and Newberry will close
By Carrie A. Mizell
Seventeen years after Badcock Home Furniture & More opened on Main Street in Trenton, owners Grady and Leigh Hartzog are now preparing to close their business on Saturday, Sept. 10.

The Hartzogs also plan to close their Badcock Home Furniture & More store in Newberry.
The poor economy is forcing the local couple to close their furniture stores, which they had hoped to one day pass along to their two daughters.
Leigh Hartzog recalls the store opening in 1994 in what is now Kid’s World on Main Street in Trenton.
“I think we might have had two dining room suites and two refrigerators back then,” Hartzog said with a smile.
In 1996, the couple built a new store at their current location on State Road 26 in Trenton. Then, in 2001 Grady and Leigh purchased the Newberry store from Grady’s parents when they decided to retire. Cindy Bass has managed the Trenton store for the last ten years, and over the last two years she has run both stores.
“There are a lot of good people in this community who have supported us by shopping locally over the years,” Leigh said. “We are so grateful to all of our customers and to Cindy for managing the stores.”
The Badcock stores in Trenton and Newberry will hold going out of business sales up until closing day on September 10. All Trenton accounts will then be transferred to the Chiefland Badcock store, while the Newberry accounts will be transferred to the Badcock location in Gainesville.
