A Chiefland husband and father of three was taken to Shands Hospital with serious injuries last Thursday after a dump truck hauling silage pulled out in front of him.
Brian A. Gore, 39, of Chiefland, had just gotten off work at Lancaster Correctional Institute and was on his way home at 2:25 p.m. when the accident happened on County Road 341.
According to Trooper J. E. Gikas of the Florida Highway Patrol, the 1993 Mack dump truck, driven by Randy B. Goold, 64, of Chiefland, pulled off a private road at White’s Dairy and into the path of Gore’s vehicle, which was traveling south on County Road 341.
Gore’s 2008 Nissan Titan pickup truck struck the left side of the dump truck, which was reportedly heading to fields on the other side of County Road 341 when the accident happened. According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s crash report, Gore attempted to brake, but the front of his vehicle struck the left side of the dump truck at the rear tire.
After the initial impact, the two trucks came to a final stop on the highway blocking both north and south lanes of traffic.
Both drivers were treated by Gilchrist County EMS on scene and were subsequently transported to Shands Hospital for additional treatment.
The driver of the dump truck incurred minor injuries in the accident. However, Gore suffered extensive injuries. As of Monday morning, Gore had been moved out of the intensive care unit and by Monday night he was able to go home from the hospital.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Goold was charged with violation of right of way at driveway or private road.
