SVL 10U baseball team wins first ever Florida Small League State Championship
The SVL (Suwannee Valley/Gilchrist League) 10U Cal Ripken Baseball’s Red Lightning team has captured the league’s first ever Florida Small League State Championship.
The State Championship was hosted by Ft. White and Cal Ripken/ Babe Ruth Baseball with teams qualifying and competing from all over the state.

In opening pool play games, SVL defeated Branford 13-2 behind superb pitching from starter Wyatt Langford, with Jacob Guthrie coming on in relief, and Levi Ferguson getting the save.
Next up was Jacksonville Lake Shore, which SVL handled 9-3 behind great defense and pitching from Jason DeMartino, Colton Hastings, Wyatt Thornton, and Parker Ferguson.
Dundee Ridge was then handed an 8-3 loss, advancing SVL to the championship bracket; Thornton, Ferguson, and Wyatt Rutgerson, again led the team on the mound.
For the semi-finals, the Red Lightning won by a score of 20-6 over Lafayette behind a fantastic outing by Hastings, who came on in early relief of Langford, advancing to the state finals. The Red Lightning then topped MSA Jacksonville 12-2, behind a complete game performance from DeMartino.
