Coups for Troops inspires a local boy

By Lisa W. Keen

Justin Walton, who will be 12- years-old soon, has had a passion for the military serving our country most of his life. It started when he was 3 and was saddened by the 9/11 news coverage.  When he was 6, he noticed a torn flag at Chiefland Farm Supply and told the owner he needed to replace it with a new one.  Subsequently, Justin was invited to attend the flag dedication ceremony and had his picture in the paper with the VFW. He has also attended the dedication of fallen soldier, Aaron Weaver, at the Post Office in Inverness.  Justin currently has a pen pal in the Army as well.

When his mom returned from a coupon workshop where she heard about Coups for Troops and told Justin, he wanted to decorate a box to collect them.
Coups for Troops is an organization that collects expired coupons for military families, who are allowed to use them up to 6 months past the expiration date. Karen Driggers, owner of Second Impressions Consignment Shop in Chiefland, also attended the coupon workshop and graciously agreed to keep the box at her shop. Coupons may be dropped off M-F, 10-5 and Sat., 10-3  or you can get more info at  www.coupsfortroops.com and on Facebook
