Newberry woman injured in SR 26 crash
By John M. Ayers
Two vehicles were traveling eastbound approaching the intersection of SE 70th Ave on SR 26 Monday afternoon. The trailing vehicle failed to slow when a Trenton man attempted to make a left turn at the blinking traffic signal onto SE 70th Avenue, reported Trooper Scott G. Martin of the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 1996 GMC blazer driven by Karen E. Trotter, 46, of Newberry did not slow down and struck the right rear portion of a 2007 Toyota car driven by William K. Coates, 41, of Trenton.
The blazer upon impact traveled right onto the southeast shoulder of SR 26 and SE 70th Ave. The front of the vehicle struck a utility pole where it stopped.
Ms. Trotter was removed from the wreckage and transported to a Gainesville hospital by Gilchrist County Emergency Medical Services.
She was reported to have been in serious condition Monday afternoon. She was reported to have not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
William Coates was reported to have been wearing a seatbelt and did not sustain any injury in the accident.
Charges in this accident are pending a complete investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
