Sheriff Daniel Slaughter announced on Tuesday afternoon that after a lenghty investigation, GCSO investigators have arrested Chelci Rae Folds in connection with the death of 4-year-old Kristina Hepp on April 27.
Folds, 19, was charged with a second degree felony count of Neglect of a Child Involving Great Bodily Harm. According to Slaughter, the charge could be upped pending a decision by State Attorney Bill Cervone. Slaughter said that Folds failed to obtain medical treament, which contributed to the death of the pre-kindergarten student.
At press time, Folds was being held at the Gilchrist County Jail awaiting first appearance on Wednesday morning. The news of Folds’ arrest comes in the wake of Cervone announcing last week that he would seek the death penalty for the child’s father Matthew Roland who was arrested and charged with first degree murder and aggravated child abuse on April 27.
According to an incident report filed in the case, Folds told investigators shortly after Roland was arrested that she noticed Kristina did not appear “right” the afternoon before her body was found by Gilchrist County EMS inside the Waccasassa home of her father, but she at no time called 911 to report bruises found on the child’s body or that she was not breathing.
