Woman leaving bar drives into river

A Gainesville woman escaped injury late Saturday night after driving her car off into the Santa Fe River, shortly after leaving Ellie Ray’s bar.

Leah Renee Enninson, 37, of Gainesville, was reportedly able to roll down the window of her vehicle and swim out shortly after the 2005 Honda went into the dark water.
According to Major Tony Smith of the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, Enninson was leaving the parking lot around 11 p.m. when she incorrectly turned north and drove into the river rather than out of the parking lot and onto 110th Street.
Enninson walked back to the bar soaking wet and shortly thereafter the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office was called out. According to Smith, four divers from the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office dive team worked until nearly 4 a.m. to get the vehicle, which had floated some 300 feet downstream, out of the river.
No charges were filed in this accident.
