Purple was the color of choice last Thursday night when Gilchrist/Levy Relay For Life participants gathered at the Trenton Community Center to celebrate having raised $57,000 in the fight against cancer this year.

Friends for Friends, a team of Wal-Mart employees, raised $3,436.56 for the 2011 Relay For Life.
The team, which consisted of Pam Deist, Tammy Eddy, Tammy Bryant, Patty Hilliard and Mary Norris,
was named Most Congenial Team at the 2011 Relay.

The 2011 Relay For Life drew several hundred people to the Trenton High School track in early April for an 18-hour fundraising event called “Carnival For A Cure.”
Thirty teams participated in the event. The top fundraising team was Central Florida Electric Cooperative at $9,001.75.
“It’s been a great year!” said Katie Jackson, community representative for the American Cancer Society. “We are looking forward to next year’s event.”
