Clemons announces candidacy for School Board, Dist. 2
A desire to “make a difference” is what motivates people to seek public office. In my opinion it is an honorable undertaking and I am grateful and humbled to have been given the opportunity to serve my community in this way.
My name is Bob Clemons and it is my privilege and honor to announce my desire to continue to serve as your representative from District 2 on our School Board. I believe I have the educational background and experience that will allow me to make a vital contribution to our school system.
My wife, Wanda, and I live on a farm just outside of Trenton. Our children graduated from Bell High School and Wanda has taught many of your children at Bell Elementary, Bell High School, and more recently, at Trenton High School.
Family is one of my highest priorities and our school system is like a big family. I deeply value the friendships we have forged over the years, and I am equally proud for the students that have received a solid educational experience in our schools.
Currently I am employed with the Levy County School Board as the Director of Finance. Previously, I worked for the Auditor General’s Office and was involved in auditing our local School Boards, the University of Florida, local Community Colleges, as well as, the State Attorney’s Office and the Public Defender’s Office. I have been a State Certified School Board Member since 2008.
As a member of the Florida School Finance Officers Association and the Florida Educational Negotiators, I receive annual leadership training that provides me with an understanding of the educational requirements each county must meet as outlined in the Florida Statues and the State of Florida School Board rules. School Board members have a vital role in the establishment of policy and vision for the future of our school system.
Like many of you, I continue to support and attend many of the events our children are involved in. That is what makes our community strong and provides for a solid foundation the next generation can build upon.
We have excellent schools in Gilchrist County. We have been an “A” district for over 10 years. In 2011 our graduation rate was 92.4%, one of the highest in the state, and far above the state average of 80.1%. Our recent partnerships with Saint Leo University and Gateway College have provided an opportunity for many of our students to pursue advance degrees on our campuses without leaving our community.
The educators who teach in our schools, as well as, the employees who cook, clean, drive the buses, and serve in the district office are the real strength of the system. They continue to “make a difference” and deserve our thanks.
My background in school finance, prior school board experience, coupled with classroom insight, and suggestions from many of you, will allow me to continue to make a meaningful contribution to the future of our educational system. It would be a privilege to once again serve as your representative on the School Board. I humbly ask for your continued support. If you have any questions or if I may be of service to you, please call 352-281-2256 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
