Roux announces candidacy for sheriff
To the Citizens of Gilchrist County:
It is both an honor and a privilege to announce my candidacy for Sheriff of Gilchrist County. My name is Robert Roux, Jr. and I am 46 years old. I have been a resident of Gilchrist County for 30 years and was a 1985 graduate of Trenton High School. I have 27 continuous years of full time law enforcement experience.
I began my law enforcement career in the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s office (1985-1987) as a dispatcher/correctional officer. I continued to further my experience in law enforcement as a state trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol for 25 years. My experience includes 3 years as a patrol officer and 22 years in the criminal investigative unit working with local, state, and federal agencies such as DEA, FBI, FDLE, police departments and sheriff’s departments in drug and other criminal investigations.
Being a veteran of the United States Army Reserve, I have 8 years of law enforcement experience where I served as a military police officer/nuclear biological chemical defense specialist attaining the rank of sergeant. I served in the Gulf War/Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Iraq, 1990-1991.
I have been married to my loving wife, Sherry (Trail) Roux for 25 years. We have three children, Tray, Bailey, and Kailey and are extremely proud to be raising them in Gilchrist County. Tray attends LaGrange College in Georgia majoring in entrepreneurship, with a minor in political science. Bailey and Kailey are in the 9th grade at Bell High School.
The majority of my leisure time is spent involved in activities within the Gilchrist County community. I am a co-founder of the Suwannee Valley League football program, and in the past, I have served as a SVL football commissioner, and as a coach for baseball and football. I volunteer as a 4-H leader and am actively involved in school activities. I enjoy hunting and fishing with my family, my children and their friends.
I have worked toward running for Sheriff of Gilchrist County for over 25 years, constantly striving to further my knowledge and experience. Becoming sheriff was a personal goal set early in my career. I want to give back to the Gilchrist community that helped me in becoming the person and law enforcement officer I am today.
My 27 years of law enforcement has fully prepared me to be your next Sheriff of Gilchrist County. I will use my experience and law enforcement knowledge to its fullest extent to fulfill the job. If elected, I will be a 24-7 crime fighter for our community to protect our families, homes, and properties. My mission is to provide the utmost professional and highest degree of law enforcement for Gilchrist County. I am committed to the prevention of crime and the protection of constitutional rights for all citizens of Gilchrist County. I will continue to work diligently and professionally with all law enforcements officers and agencies, and most importantly the citizens to assure that Gilchrist County is the safest place to live and raise our families.
