Speed limit will not change on CR 232
By John M. Ayers
On Monday the Gilchrist County Commissioners discussed in detail the proposed speed limit change on CR-232 to 45 miles per hour in the vicinity of Center Hill Church of Christ.
The Commission reported that this issue has created a lot of comment from Gilchrist constituents, and the public appears to not want the speed limit reduced in the 1.2 mile stretch of highway from SR 47 east on CR 232.
Gilchrist County Sheriff Daniel Slaughter attended the Monday commission meeting and the board asked him to give information involving the speed limit change in this area.
“We look at situations like this and consider the accidents that have occurred in the affected area,” Slaughter said. Slaughter pointed out that traffic signs could be placed in the described area to caution the traffic when they pass through the area.
Commissioner Tommy Langford made a motion to have the attorney not advertise the proposed ordinance 2010-01 to reduce speed and have the road department erect signs to caution the public in this area leading up to intersection of SR 47 and CR 232. Commissioner Kenrick Thomas agreed and gave a second to the motion. The board voted 5-0 in favor.
