The Gilchrist County Woman’s Club helped with the dessert table at the 2011 Wild Beast Feast on April 8.
Members supplied helping hands to serve sweets to the many supporters gathered for this annual event. While everyone stayed busy keeping the service line moving, club members enjoyed working together to once again raise scholarship funds for Gilchrist County High School students.

The Woman’s Club held its annual Mother-Daughter Celebration on April 14 to honor the 2011 graduating seniors from Bell and Trenton High Schools. This year eight Bell seniors and two Trenton seniors, along with their mothers and friends, were honored.
Lois Scott, Arts and Crafts Chairperson, and Casey Benson, Bell High School Band member, presented a special musical invocation performing a flute and piano duet of “In the Garden”.
Our guest speaker, Julie Thomas, President of the Gilchrist County Educational Foundation, spoke about her life’s journey and encouraged the graduates to adopt a “can-do” attitude that will open doors of opportunity throughout their lives.
The Welfare Committee, including chairperson Norma Birman, and members Carin Floyd, Mary Jo Mansfield, Leslie Reitz, and Nancy Rowe, prepared a delightful meal with the support of many other club members.
President Cindy Slaughter provided the main entrees of smoked and roasted turkey.
Each graduate introduced her mother and explained her post graduation plans. As a remembrance of this special occasion, the club gave each graduate an ”old school house” Christmas tree ornament of their Alma Mater.
Each club member introduced herself, her connections to Gilchrist County, and her involvement in our local communities. President Cindy Slaughter urged Seniors to stay involved with civic and community life to give to others and to reap the personal rewards that such involvement invariably brings.
The club expedited the nomination and election of officers for the 2011-2012 year. Current officers will all serve another term in their current posts.
The next meeting will be on May 19 at 7 p.m. Note the special date. At this meeting we will learn the winner of the yearlong points contest so be on hand for the announcement and bring a guest.
