Delicious food, fellowship with friends and the chance to raise scholarship money for local high school seniors drew over 1,200 people to the Gilchrist County FFA Alumni Arena on Friday night for the 19th Annual Wild Beast Feast.
Tiffany Turner, secretary for the Education Foundation of Gilchrist County, said that, as of Monday, over $22,000 in profit had been generated through this year’s Wild Beast Feast.
Monies raised at the event were up from 2011, when the Wild Beast Feast generated just over $16,000 for the Education Foundation. Along with annual Walk-a-thon, the Wild Beast Feast is a primary fundraiser for the Education Foundation of Gilchrist County, which awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors and mini-grants to Gilchrist County teachers.
As of Monday, Turner said she did not have an official number of high school seniors who have applied for a Education Foundation scholarship this spring.
New to the Beast Feast this year was a cake auction where over 30 homemade cakes were sold for a total of $5,200. The highest selling cake was a red velvet cake made by Vanecia Thomas of Bell that sold for $300. Other popular cakes included a pecan pound cake made by Corliss Smith, an Italian cream cake made by Marilyn Beach and a hummingbird cake made by Minnie Stalvey.
