A Trenton man was issued a civil citation for $1,143 for his role in a September 2010 accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on State Road 26.
Along with the fine, Jackie R. Barron of Trenton had his driver’s license revoked for 6 months and received 30 hours of community service after entering a no contest plea last Tuesday morning.
Barron made an improper u-turn on a rain slick State Road 26 in front of a Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Robert J. Carrier, 59, of Trenton. When Barron’s 2002 Ford pickup pulled out in front of him, Carrier steered his motorcycle to the right in an attempt to avoid the truck pulling across the highway, but collided with the front of the vehicle.
Carrier was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and was ejected from the motorcycle. The motorcyclist, who was riding in a poker run to raise funds for a local cancer patient when the accident occurred, was transported to Shands Hospital, where he reportedly died.
According to the Gilchrist County Clerk’s Office, Barron has no criminal history and had no civil history prior to this accident other than one speeding ticket years ago.
