Old Town man dies in tragic truck accident
By John M. Ayers
An Old Town man lost his life Friday evening in a vehicle accident as he was traveling north leaving Horseshoe Beach on County Road 351.
Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Alan Harrison reported the accident occurred at 9:05 p.m. when the driver lost control of his pickup truck and slammed into a tree.
Wilton David ‘Korde’ Osteen, 21, of Old Town was north bound on County Road 351 and was reported to have been traveling at a high rate of speed when he approached a curve to the left.
The right side tires of the 2004 Chevrolet truck Osteen was driving reportedly ran off the edge of the pavement. The driver was reported to have over corrected the vehicle and lost control. The truck turned in a counter clockwise rotation as it traveled across both lanes of the highway.
The vehicle continued sliding off of the west shoulder of the roadway.
The truck was reported to have overturned several times before the vehicle struck a pine tree. The driver was ejected from the truck while the vehicle was over turning, and he died at the scene.
Dixie County Emergency Medical Services responded to the accident.
Trooper Harrison reported the driver was traveling alone, and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The evidence involving this accident indicates that alcohol was a contributing factor in this accident.
