Fanning Springs mayor
could get a salary hike

If a proposed ordinance is approved, then the mayor of Fanning Springs could soon be making $1,000 each month, a hefty raise from the position’s current salary.
According to Shelia Watson, city clerk for the City of Fanning Springs, the mayor’s position currently pays some $766 each month.
Cheryl Nekola has reportedly been mayor of Fanning Springs for the last three years and is up for re-election this fall.
In comparison to other local municipalities, the salary of the mayor in Fanning Springs exceeds both Trenton and Bell.
When contacted by the Gilchrist County Journal, Robin Heath, administrative assistant at Trenton City Hall, reported that Mayor Glen Thigpen makes just $600 each month, whereas Dan Cavanah, Bell city manager, said that Mayor Darryl Bryan takes home just $200 each month.
A public hearing regarding the pay increase for the mayor of Fanning Springs has been scheduled for April 6 at 5 p.m. inside the Fanning Springs City Hall.
