A 17-year-old Trenton High School student, who was reportedly shot in the buttocks near a home in Otter Springs early Friday morning, is expected to recover.
No one has been arrested for the shooting, though Sheriff’s Office investigators say that the incident was “not just a random shooting.”
Major Tony Smith, of the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, said that several shotgun pellets were lodged in the girl’s kidneys. The Sheriff’s Office would not release the victim’s name.
Neighbors reportedly called 911 after hearing the girl’s screams shortly after midnight. When deputies from the Sheriff’s Office arrived along with rescue workers from Gilchrist County EMS, they apparently found the girl outside an Otter Springs home. Investigators said the teenager had been living at the home with her brother.
