Decomposing body found in Rolling Oaks
By Carrie A. Mizell
The remains of a human body were found decomposing inside a car in the Rolling Oaks neighborhood.
According to Lt. David Aderholt of the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, a search of the abandoned vehicle was conducted after the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office received information on February 4.
“An investigation is currently ongoing and we are in the process of identifying the remains and the circumstances surrounding the death,” Aderholt said on Monday.
The partial remains found inside the vehicle were reportedly in an “extreme state of decomposition.”
After the Sheriff’s Office obtained a search warrant, the vehicle was taken to the Sheriff’s Office impound yard. Following an extensive search of the vehicle, the remains were turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
“From information obtained in this case, the remains may possibly be those of an individual who died in Gilchrist County approximately five years ago and whose death was never reported,” Aderholt said on Monday.
Sheriff’s investigators have spoken with several people while investigating this case. However, more information is needed. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (352) 463-3181.
