Mrs. Allen and Mr. Young crowned Valentine’s royalty

By Angie Rexroat

S.W.A.K! Sealed with a Kiss! Will you be my Valentine? There are a million ways to say I love you this time of year.
The activities department at Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center put a new spin on Valentine’s Day by throwing a Valentine themed “Senior Prom” to celebrate the national day of love.
With tons of preparation and lots of heart, the activities department sent out little reminders to families to attend the center’s cupid crusade with their family members. The families were also asked to wear red dresses and tux attire to accommodate the occasion. In the meantime, ballots were sent out all over the center and residents were given the opportunity to vote for a Valentine’s king and queen. Who will it be? After much anticipation, the day finally arrived. Photos were taken of each sweetheart, and lots of kisses were exchanged, too! Many loved ones joined the Ayers family, dressed in their best, to have a surf and turf lunch and see who the king and queen would be. Last year’s queen, Miss Loretta Martin, waited anxiously to crown this year’s royalty.

Finally, the new court was chosen, Mrs. Josie Allen as Valentine Queen, and Mr. James Young as Valentine King. Both families were present to share in the celebration.
Mrs. Josie Allen is 87 years old. She has been a resident of the Garden Gate Neighborhood inside Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center since October 2010.
Mr. James Young is 89 years old. He has also been a resident of the Garden Gate Neighborhood inside Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center since October 2010.
Mrs. Josie and Mr. James are loved by all at Ayers.
A lot of love and compassion is shared at this event and all events at Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center, where we always put our heart in it! Many thanks to all of the partners and families who made this day a huge success.
