A Trenton Post Office employee called 911 after spotting a 23-year-old Trenton man trying to steal copper pipe from the post office’s air conditioning unit.
Ricky David Thomas, Jr., of 314 NE 3rd Street in Trenton, was arrested on January 5 and charged with criminal mischief and trespassing. Thomas reportedly told Investigator Edwin Jenkins, of the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office that he had used pliers to cut wire on the air conditioning unit and was trying to steal copper wire when a postal employee spotted him.
Apparently a ground wire that was copper had been cut and partially pulled out of the ground by Thomas before he fled the post office in a vehicle.
After being arrested, Thomas was transported to the Gilchrist County Jail where he is being held on a $2,500 bond.
