Rutter, Kinsey and Hellams sworn-in
By John M. Ayers
The Trenton City Commission began their January 11, 2011, meeting as Attorney David M. Lang presented the Oath of Office to each of the three re-elected commissioners.
Lang asked commissioners Randy Rutter, Tim Kinsey and Marcia Hellams to stand as the elected officials each raised their right hand and repeated the oath of office as the attorney presented it.
The three commissioners were re-elected in December 2010 without opposition. They will each serve a two-year term.
During the meeting, the Trenton City Commission also discussed in detail the speeding traffic along NW 5th Avenue and NE 7th Street.
Commissioner Rutter asked if stop signs at NE 5th Ave and NE 7th Street could be removed to eliminate the 4-Way Stop intersection in front of the Trenton Church of Christ.
“A lot of traffic drives right through this intersection without stopping,” Commissioner Rutter explained.
Lang recommended the commission take a closer look at this issue before making a decision and advise the public of the commission’s intent.
Commissioner Hellams asked if the stop signs on NW 5th Ave could be put up to slow traffic on this east-west route.
Hellams said, “The speed of the traffic on this street has increased and it has become a safety issue.”
