Lang announces candidacy for Gilchrist County Court Judge
Submitted
I would like to take this opportunity to formally announce my candidacy for Gilchrist County Court Judge in the upcoming election. Since I began practicing law I have always strived to provide my clients with competent, diligent, and informed legal representation and I believe that I possess the temperament and the ability to provide for the faithful and impartial performance of the duties as your next Gilchrist County Court Judge.
I am fifty-six years old and married to Carol (Parrish) Lang and we have two children, Allie who is seventeen years old and in the twelfth grade at Trenton High School, and Mill who is 14 years old and in the ninth grade at Trenton High School. My father, Miller Lang, served as your Gilchrist County Court Judge for many years until his retirement, and my mother, Marie (Slaughter) Lang had a long career as secretary for Trenton High School until her retirement.
I am a member of the Florida Bar, the City, County and Government Law Section of the Florida Bar, the General Practice Solo and Small Firm Section of the Florida Bar, the Florida Municipal Attorneys Association, and the Eighth Judicial Circuit Bar Association. I have owned and operated my own successful law practice in Trenton, Florida, since 1994, and I have represented hundreds of clients throughout the Eighth and Third Judicial Circuits particularly in Gilchrist, Levy, Dixie, Alachua, and Columbia Counties. I have also been privileged to serve as the City Attorney for the City of Trenton, Florida, having served in that position since 1995, and as Town Attorney for the Town of Bell, Florida, having served in that position since 2001. Both of my City clients have provided me with a vast range of experience in dealing with legal matters directly affecting our citizens at the local level. Additionally, I have represented numerous parties pro bono, or without compensation, over the years where those clients could not otherwise afford legal representation.
I graduated from Trenton High School, Lake City Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree, Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, and the Thomas M. Cooley Law School with the degree of Juris Doctor. I am a member and past Director of the Gilchrist County Chamber of Commerce, Gilchrist County and Florida Cattlemen’s Association, Gilchrist County Farm Bureau, the Florida State University Alumni Association, William T. Carlton Lodge Number 46 and the Suwannee River Shrine Club. I have also served as a member of the Gilchrist County Elections Canvassing Board. I am also recently honored to have been selected to serve as the 2012 President of the Gilchrist County AARP Chapter.
I was named as the Gilchrist County Citizen of the year in 2007, and through the years I have been a loyal supporter of our children and our various community activities and events. I have also volunteered as a former coach with Suwannee Valley Leagues, Inc., and I have been a supporter of the Suwannee River Fair and Livestock Show over the years.
In closing, let me say that I care deeply for this county and its residents. As a lifelong resident, it is my desire to give back to this wonderful community and serve the citizens of Gilchrist County and I would like to have the opportunity and will truly appreciate your support in electing me to serve you as your next Gilchrist County Court Judge in the upcoming election. I believe that you will find based upon my experience in the practice of law that I possess the qualifications necessary for consistent, faithful and impartial performance of the duties of this important office.
Thank you very much for your consideration, help and support.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
David Miller (Duke) Lang
