Wilson announces candidacy for Clerk

Submitted

My name is Verna Mae Eady Wilson and I am seeking the position of Clerk of the Circuit Court for Gilchrist County.
I am 47 years old and have been married to Kenyon Wilson for 11 years and have three children.
I have lived in Gilchrist County since 1971 and attended Gilchrist schools since the second grade, graduating from Trenton High School.
During my various employment positions I have had to meet the public, oftentimes having to tactfully solve problems, handle finances, do scheduling and meet with other department heads in assisting to bring about the best handling of situations.
I held the position of recording clerk with the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Levy County for one year serving under Mr. Danny Shipp. I was subsequently promoted to felony clerk where I served for three years.
I left the Levy County position in 2007 when a position with the Clerk’s office in Gilchrist County came available. I have served under Joe Gilliam as Deputy Clerk in charge of misdemeanor and jury clerk since July, 2007.
The position of Clerk of the Circuit Court is defined as the public trustee for the county. This entails the keeping of all public records, being an internal auditor for the county funds, and maintaining checks and balances in county government by acting as clerk to the Board of County Commissioners and clerk to the court.
I feel that I am uniquely qualified for this position.
As a recording clerk I have had to be meticulous in inspecting each document and making sure everything was met for the recordation.
In working with the courts I have had to be very precise in making sure each had the correct information and in the right format.
While working as the finance manager for a sanitation company I was involved in preparing and submitting bids to cities and counties.
I feel I am a well-rounded person and very capable of performing the tasks of the Clerk’s office.
During my employment with a major glass company I was the sole employee handling accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
My family and I have lived and worked in Gilchrist County for over 40 years and our heart and soul are here.
I am fortunate to reside in a county where the old adage “help thy neighbor” is still alive and doing well. I want only the best for the caring citizens of our county and I respectfully ask for your support in letting me provide the best service I can for the people of the county.
