Trenton child dies in four-wheeler accident

A 12-year-old Trenton girl was killed Saturday night in a four-wheeler accident in the Gulf Hammock Hunt Club.
Cheyenne Ellis was driving a 2009 Yamaha Rhino with her 5-year-old passenger, Brody Ellis of Cedar Key, when the accident occurred at 10:15 p.m. on January 7.
According to Cpl. Dill of the Florida Highway Patrol, Cheyenne Ellis was driving the four-wheeler southbound on a limerock road inside the hunting club when she lost control of the ATV. Cheyenne was ejected from the four-wheeler when it began to rotate in a clockwise motion before overturning on top of Cheyenne and Brody.
Brody suffered minor injuries in the accident.
According to the incident report, the children were not wearing helmets when the accident occurred.
Charges in the accident are pending.
Cheyenne was a sixth grade student at Chiefland Middle School, where she was actively involved in FFA, and played softball and volleyball.
On Tuesday morning, Cheyenne’s FFA advisor Katie Jones remembered her as a sweet and enthusiastic girl.
Funeral services for Cheyenne will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12 at First Baptist Church of Chiefland.
A second four-wheeler accident in Levy County over the weekend took the life of a 22-year-old Bronson man.
Lucas Benjamin Corbitt, 22, of Bronson, was pronounced dead at the scene after he reportedly lost control of a Yamaha four-wheeler on NE 115th Avenue.
According to Cpl. Leslie Weber of the Florida Highway Patrol, Corbitt was driving the ATV north on NE 115th Avenue, which is a dirt roadway that curves toward the right. Corbitt lost control of the four-wheeler, causing its left front side to collide with a dirt embankment on the west side of the road.
On impact, Cpl. Weber stated that the ATV continued on north before overturning and ejecting Corbitt onto the roadway.
Corbitt was found several hours after the accident occurred by a local resident walking along the road at 9:30 a.m. The actual time of the crash had not been determined at press time. Corbitt was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
